AJ&K Legislative Assembly has passed The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Social Protection of Vulnerable Population Act, 2024, aiming to provide social protection for vulnerable groups, including widows, orphans, differently-abled individuals, transgender persons, and elderly people. It establishes a Social Protection Board, headed by the Prime Minister, to manage and oversee the implementation of the program. The Board will identify eligible individuals, determine allowance rates, and ensure efficient disbursement through the Social Protection Trust Fund, financed by mandatory contributions, government grants, and donations. An investment committee will manage the Fund’s assets for maximum benefit. The Act also sets rules for auditing, managing accounts, and preventing misuse of funds.
